Ubisoft in its Q3 investor conference call today provided some new details regarding the previously rumoured new Assassin’s Creed game. There, that should be enough to get you to read the rest of the article.
Ubisoft CEO, Yves Guillemot, provided some details on the game’s setting, saying that “This time, [Ezio] will strike directly against the templar's order in Rome.”
Last month, Ubisoft mentioned this game during a revision of their fiscal outlook for FY11, saying that it would be the first in the series to have online multiplayer. The publisher provided some additional details about this feature as well, calling it “innovative” and saying it would involve players participating in an assassination mode against friends online.
Guillemot also said that AC2 has sold 8 million copies, a landmark only reached by the original Assassin’s Creed in June 2009, approximately 18 months after its debut.

Interesting, but I'm not sure I really care for the multiplayer. Even if it turns out to be good, I'd still mainly play the game for the single player.
