A new poll conducted by KRC Research on behalf of the Entertainment Software Association has found that video games are on the top of many Christmas shoppers lists, with 42% of American adults planning to give or hoping to receive a video game this Christmas, a nine percent uptick over the same figure in 2007, representing the highest figure since 2004.
“Computer and video games are topping holiday lists because they provide a superior entertainment value for the whole family,” said Michael D. Gallagher, president and CEO of the ESA. “With 68 percent of American households playing computer and video games, US consumers value the creative and innovative products the entertainment software industry produces and are seeking them out for themselves and to give as gifts.”
The study also found that 47% of the intended recipients of games are women, a 31% increase from 2007. Also noted was that 54% of people who play this holiday season plan to play with a friend or family member.
